Energy Performance Certificate (EPC)

Energy Performance Certificate (EPC)

We are one of the leading EPC providers in Greater London, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Essex, Middlesex and surrounding areas.

It is the legal responsibility of homeowners and landlords to have a valid Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) if they want to rent out or sell their domestic or commercial property in the UK. Currently, the EPC rating of E is a minimum requirement but from 2025, all newly rented properties will be required to have an EPC rating of C or above.

How can a good EPC rating benefit me?

  • Lower energy bills – adding more energy efficient measures to your home will lower your consumption and therefore reduce your energy bills.
  • Improve property value – if you’re considering selling your property, then improving the energy rating will also likely improve the value.
  • Lower mortgage – it may be possible to achieve lower mortgage rates through green mortgages.
  • Lower your carbon footprint – increasing your properties energy efficiency will lower your carbon emissions.

How to improve your EPC rating?

Improving your EPC rating means improving your home’s energy efficiency. It also means you could reduce your energy bills, make your home warmer and more comfortable and increase its value and reduce your carbon footprint. Here are some of the ways to improve your EPC:

  • Loft insulation – it’s easy to install, inexpensive and can make a huge difference to your bills. Install loft insulation that’s at least 270mm thick.
  • Wall insulation – whether your home has cavity or solid walls, insulating them can improve your EPC rating.
  • Replace you boiler – you can cut your energy bills with a new, energy-efficient boiler.
  • Solar panels – although these produce not cheaper but they provide greener energy and long-term savings.
  • Double glazing – upgrading your windows and doors won’t just improve your home’s energy performance, it can reduce noise too.
  • An efficient secondary heating source – installing a wood-burning stove instead of an open fireplace can give you greater fuel efficiency and reduced costs in the long run.

Apart from being a legal requirement, having an EPC encourages energy efficiency, reduces running costs for your tenants, and increases the value of your property. You can visit our FAQs page if you have any other queries an about EPC.
